What we cherish is the authentic spirit of this place, and the gentle way time flows here. It is our hope that within this majestic nature, our guests can truly reclaim a sense of their own time. A Legacy of 40 Years
The history of this lodge began in 1985 as “Pension Snow Goose.” Inheriting the place and the legacy cherished since by many mountaineers, birdwatchers, and skiers, we renovated the lodge in the autumn of 2025 to suit modern lifestyles, beginning a new chapter as Snow Goose. The warmth that should be preserved, and the comfort that must be new. Cherishing both, we are nurturing this place.

The Quietude of Yohaku
“True beauty is not made; it is born.”
Sori Yanagi, who left us these words, is one of Japan’s leading industrial designers. If true beauty is found in the products that acclaimed designers around the world choose to use in their daily lives, then his philosophy continues to radiate brilliance today.
Snow Goose was fully renovated based on the concept of yohaku—the “empty space” that breathes within the Japanese aesthetic. Its atmosphere, tranquil and reminiscent of a museum that embodies a certain modernism, is imbued with the hope that beauty will emerge naturally from within. To the modern sensibility, which relentlessly seeks productivity and efficiency, a white wall or an unadorned ceiling might appear stark. There is an urge to fill such seemingly “wasteful” spaces with affordable, easily sourced furniture. And yet, in the past, a simple Japanese room of a few tatami mats was often all that was needed for sleeping, eating, studying, and all the acts of daily life. The Japanese space possesses a true beauty and rationality that is both multi-purpose and minimal, rendering ornate decorations unnecessary.
In Myoko Kogen, a beautiful, ancient nature already exists. It is not merely a forest or a stream, but a living environment that changes its form day by day, unfolding before your eyes. We invite you to let go of distractions and observe with care: the branches and leaves on the ground, the tracks of animals on the earth, the ridgeline of the mountains. Within the details of what nature has created, true beauty lies hidden. We also invite you to listen closely: to the sound of leaves rustling against each other, to the great chorus of insects, to the calls of many kinds of birds. There are new discoveries to be made that often go unnoticed in daily life.
More than any luxurious experience, the very act of savoring the quiet, slow passage of time can be the greatest luxury and happiness. Perhaps we, who lead constantly busy lives, need to reclaim such a feeling. At Snow Goose, we hope to offer a rich lodging experience, full of empty space, that anticipates the luxury of the coming era. We sincerely look forward to welcoming you.
